why is it that when i press the brake pedal the engine stalls out? i have looked every where and have no idea of why this is happening. anyone have any ideas?

Pretty sure this has vacuum boosted power brakes. For had a couple hydro-boost systems but I don't think for 87 Trucks. There is a large vacuum hose to a large diaphragm behind master cylinder. hose must be intact. Rare but there is a plastic check valve that can fail right at the booster. It has a rubber grommet and at the age bet both break to even undo them but should be inexpensive. Booster itself could be at fault too. That might be expensive. Don't know now as it's been year (decades) since I dealt with bad ones. a test that you are even in the right area would be to hit the brakes with engine off and you should still feel the power assist a time or two and then a stiff pedal. If it doesn't behave like that the assist has a problem and you need it to work as it would take four feet and a horse to stop the truck without assist, T
