hey i have a 88 chrysler daytona shelby Z with a 2.2 litre that is turbo charged and intercooled. It runs great and goes like crazy, but once it warms up, it does like to run. you have to keep the rpms up or it dies. I changed the ECM and that fixed the problem for quite a while, but now it is starting to do it again...
Help me, I am getting fustrated, as I have put so much work and money into this car and I am tired of fighting problems... I think it is a sensor, but if anyone has any ideas, let me know...

If only cold and then fine it could be a coolant temp sensor - the one just to tell the thing to run richer when cold like a choke would. Quick check showed two possible - one with three wire connection and one with just two. The two wire one you could check with an ohm meter. Should show much different values for cold vs hot engine - don't have the chart handy. Three wired one IDK?

They look like this....

Frequently are placed near thermostat if you investigate that as the problem,

Allot of the time it doesn't even need to be hot though...its just more likely...it is just random, so i dunno...sometimes it will do it when it is cold too...like I said, changing the computer worked for a very long time, but then it just randomly started again...plus I changed the water temperature sensor once already...the two prong one

I don't know this one specifically but temp sensors for a gauge or radiator fan are usually not the one telling the car's systems (computer) that it's cold or warmed up or part way in between. That three wired one might do two functions - dunno.

More often on GMs but this car has some time on it that connections can make for the intermittent issues. Frequently new plug and wires come with new switches/senders just for that reason.

Where did they hide the computer for this car? If down on right lower, passenger's kick panel see if it gets wet in there. This is a rusty area for cars and I've found those so soaked I shocked they were fixable with all the wires going to them covered in muck and salt from the roads and a rusty car that really allowed that to happen.

Sometimes just pulling a plug item apart, use a Q-Tip with something light like WD-40 on connections can snap them to work.

I may be barking up the wrong tree. Perhaps pulling whatever codes you can get will lead to something useful to do or check. I don't know my Mopars as well as others of the vintage so don't know just how to get the codes from this one.

Fuel pressure staying within spec would be a good test too. Best if you can catch it while problem is happening of course,

T
