Hello all This is my first post here and sadly I have a deadline fast approaching for this project so any help would be greatly appreciated. I bought an RV in January to restore for the upcoming Indy 500. When I bought it, it ran great. On my way home though, it started sputtering and would no longer run. Had to tow it home. . . Since then it's gone through an overhaul. On the motor I have replaced plugs, wires, distributor, PCM, cleaned throttle body, dropped and cleaned tank, new fuel pump, blew out fuel lines, new o rings on injectors, and fuel filter. I don't think I'm forgetting anything but I will update as I recall. When starting it generally won't have a problem starting. Once it starts it'll idle forever, just rough. Throttle response is most of the time laggy and seems unresponsive. It is smoking quite a bit but would expect after it sat for 3+ years. Also the smoke doesn't smell like oil. Smells pretty normal. The only other symptom that I have is that whenever it's running and I unplug the MAP sensor it idles absolutely wonderfully. Can rev up and no problems whatsoever except that when you drop into drive it'll die. Sorry for the lengthy post but I figured I would be thorough. Absolutely any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This sounds like a very expensive experiment. You have spent a fortune using the "throw parts at it" diagnostic method. You would have been way ahead of the game to have a professional diagnose it properly. Have you pulled any codes from this? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks for the response. Up until this point I would say I've just done a tune up. Gas tank was wretched so decided to clean out fuel system. I have not pulled any codes yet. I'm not familiar with the computer systems on these or there locations and can't seem to find anything online. I do know the CEL isn't when it is running.

This is a primitive OBD1 system so you can't use a generic code reader. I would advise finding a local shop to help you out.

See if this shows? You can retrieve codes without the reader but I do NOT suggest it. It's also about obsolete to find one or a place that will bother using one - I have one and don't use it. Connector looks like this a tilted trapezoid and another wire near it just left hanging.............. The tool is just a small box you put on this so you don't mess up then count blinks on the tool or not suggested by me to fake it and count check engine light blinks. I'm not going there. It can only tell you so much anyway. A lot can be possible in sitting for 3 years on this. You cleaned fuel tank if an OE type that's near impossible IMO. Check fuel filter dumping it inlet side into clear glass container and see what junk comes out. Bet it's totally polluted still with junk, T

Yeah the gas tank was a fun project. Cleaned it the best I could do. Got a bunch of crap out. I blew out the lines with compressed air. Also has a new inline filter. Only thing I didn't get air pressure through would be from inline filter to fuel rail. Where is the connector where I would be able to pull codes and what type of reader would I need to get an accurate reading? Thank you for the quick response
