91 honda civic overheating

i just replaced my thermostat and that didnt fix the problem this is the weird part the temp gauge goes to the red but the car doesnt seem to overheat. when a car overheats doesnt it steam from under the hood or pour antifreeze all over the ground correct me if im wrong please

Make sure it's full of coolant at the radiator. Also check that the electric fan comes on. Not all overheats steam or loose coolant so yours if probably mild overheat. Put the heater on full blast and feel the air. Does it seem way too hot? You might have a failing radiator or perhaps the gauge is not accurate, T
