Just curious. If you induce a problem such as unplugging the ECT sensor does the ECM set a code 15? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

No converters on this beast. Yeah O2 in left header only. I got home and put the new fuel pressure gauge in to find out my other one was indeed bad. It was hung up and wouldn't drop past 11 PSI. The new one revealed I only have 9.5 PSI at the TB. Gonna see what I have for pressure in the AM when cold. SS

Nothings unplugged and as mentioned before no codes on the snap-on scanner. Fuel pressure gauge is dropping to zero when off 9.5 PSI when running which is down from the 12 to 13 it should be at. SS

My thought exactly. I'm gonna pinch off the return line to verify it tonight. Just need to make sure if it's the regulator or the fuel pump. SS

Well pinched off the line system held pressure at the new gauge. Took off the clamp and it dropped instantly. I replaced the whole regulator section. (store only had the assembly no rebuild kit on hand.) Primed the system and only showed 6 PSI. Great now less pressure. Key off and pressure dumped again. Guess now I'll go after the fuel pump it's the only thing left I can think of. Truck still started hard Regulator was a Borg Warner. SS

Were you pinching off the feed or the return? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I thought I was on the return but appears not. My pressure is down with the new regulator so I'm guessing that the pump isn't up to the task with the new spring in there. Bad fuel pump check valve? SS

If you were pinching off the feed line, that would explain both issues. Just did both lines, the one shoots up to 6 PSI holds until relay shuts down then fast to zero. The other line builds up to about 8 PSI then the relay kicks and it bleeds right down to zero. SS

It's T'd into a fitting right at the back of the TB off the feed line. That's where it was when i got the truck. It's a new gauge as the old one was stuck. No leaks from it. SS

Re: 93' K5 Blazer 5.7 TBI Cold start flooding issue

I found this old post from another guy on another site " I've read many of the other posts in this forum and have checked cap, rotor, coil, etc... and have great spark. I checked the ECM with a code reader and the system passes ok with a continuous "12" flashing wich means system pass. From what I can see, I'm just not building up enough fuel pressure. With a fuel pressure guage inline and the key turned to ON, the new pump runs audibly for 2 to 3 seconds, and pressure builds up to about 10 to 13 lbs and stays there as long as the pump is running. Once the pump stops, that 10 to 13 lbs of pressure drops to zero immediately. While cranking, there's no fuel being delivered into the TBI ports. On occasion the pump will kick back on for 10 to 15 seconds or more, but never build pressure above 10 to 13lbs. " Sounds just like my deal. Then here is what he found out. "Finally, I got it fixed. As luck would have it, my Ignition Control Module was bad inside the distributor. When I pulled the old one out to inspect it, I noticed the factory original "GM" stamping on the top of it. Who'da thought that after 195K miles it would have the original ICM. At any rate, I threw in a new one and the suburban is back up and running again. Hope this can be of help to anyone else with similar indications. " I'm going to grab one with the rest of the other parts tonight. I just don't understand why the Ignition mod. Would cause the goofy fuel pressure? SS

What does an Ignition Module have to do with fuel pressure leakdown or low fuel pressure? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Don't know I thought the same thing. I realized that I have the ICM from my stock distributor at home so I won't need to grab one. I'll stick with the pump and filter for now and have a wack at it tonight and in the morning. I still think it's gotta be the pump check valve being stuck open. SS

Tanks out fuel pump is out and I'm gonna say that it was the original. 160K on the Carter stamped pump. The new Delphi and the Delphi sock go in as soon as I get up in the AM. The onto the new Wix fuel filter. SS

New pump in new o rings at the tanks line and new sock. New filter, (old one had a loose filter rattling around inside). Pulled and replaced o rings on the TBI side as well. System is putting out 11 psi now and the old girl fires right up. Thanks for the help guys all is well now. SS

That doesn't make any sense. A failing fuel pump shouldn't cause flooding. Maybe it wasn't flooding, but wasn't getting enough fuel instead. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

The fuel I was smelling during cold start was the feed and return lines seeping at the Tbi. O rings were junk. Found signs of leaks once the system had the new pump and filter. In other words the leak got worse. Couldn't see it because they are up under the back of the TB. Gauge now shoots up to @5 11.5 psi. Still drops to zero after relay kicks off and when shut down but it fire right up when the system was bone ass cold this morning. One more test in the AM and all should be well. SS
