I have a 1995 GMC Jimmy with the 4.3 Vortec with approx. 142,000 miles. The problem started with every now and then the truck would just cough/hiccup randomly. Then it would start to take 2 to 3 attempts to start the engine. (It would start and immediately die) I could hear the fuel pump in the tank making a much louder noise than usual. Eventually it got to where it would not start and run at all. I have noticed the same sound and symptoms in my Chevy Tahoe and 1/2 ton Chevy cargo van, and found that I had to replace the fuel pump. I have now dropped the tank and replaced the fuel pump w/ new screen/in tank filter. When I turn on the ignition the fuel pump will energize and pump up as usual, but the truck will not attempt to start. I have checked and have good spark. I have not done a pressure check but just did a visual at the check port at the drivers side rear of the motor, and there is definate positive pressure (squirts about 6" when depressed with a screwdriver). I have even put a small amount of fuel into the aluminum air intake part of the engine. When I did this the engine would start and run momentarily, but will not continue to run. I'm at a loss where I can be losing fuel transfer into the engine and would greatly appreciate any suggestions as to where to start. Thanks, Kevin
