95 geo prizm problem...PLEASE HELP! Sign In

I have a 95 Geo Prizm and i have replaced the whole distributor and the cam sensor. I hooked a computer and it said that no codes were showing up as wrong. It turns over but doesnt start. If i spray carb cleaner in the air intake it stays running but as soon as i stop it stops. I am getting fuel into the fuel rack so its not the fuel pump or fuel injectors. Can someone please give me any help?! i just lost my job and im spending my last pay check on this car bc its all i got for transpotation and that means i aint got a car to take my prego wife and 2 year son to the doctors. Im doing everything i can to get it going. im going to be working on it tomorrow all day with a buddy mechanic of mine.Unsure

If you can make this run with carb cleaner but dies when the cleaner stops.....than this is a fuel problem. Even though you have fuel at the fuel rail dosn't mean that the fuel pressure if sufficent to run the car. Check the fuel pressure. Have your mechanic friend bring his pressure tester if he has one. This is where the problem is.

You are welcome. You may try to rent one from Autozone. I think they may loan them. Keep in mind that if the fuel pressure is try a fuel filter first. Cheaper first. But if the fuel pump turns out to be bad put a fuel filter on anyway. Also Autozone can give you the fuel pressure specs for you car. Good Luck

Fuel System Pressure For your 1995 Geo Prizm 1.6L MFI DOHC : 38-44 PSI(Pounds per Square Inch) Note: Vent the fuel tank vapors by loosening the fuel cap then disconnect the circuit opening relay plug, and start the engine . Allow the engine to run until it runs out of fuel and stalls. After spinning the engine over for a period of (3) to (5) seconds, turn off the ignition switch and reconnect the circuit opening relay plug. Install a fuel pressure gauge in the fuel rail supply line, and secure the fuel tank cap. Locate the diagnostic link connector and proceed to insert a jumper wire from the FP terminal pin to the B-Plus terminal pin. With the ignition key in the on position, verify that no leaks are present and start the engine. Visually verify the PSI reading on the gauge.
**************

Just to add.... Found the spec if the 1.6 engine in this car 38-44 psi. Some are very sensitive to the correct range of pressure and this does seem exactly a fuel problem as Jeff suggested,

UPDATE!Smile i found the source of the problem......ya'll will get a good laugh out of this... we were trying to find the fuel pump and i got really lucky because on my car if i just pop the back seat out there is a cover that i take off and the pump is right there. so we pulled the pump up and out and we blew air and carb cleaner through the lines to make sure it was all clean and clear. well we cleaned the pump and everything but the pump isnt pushing enough PSI to push the fuel through the line. so all that it is that my pump is bad and thankfully i didnt have to drop my tank to get to the pump. but when i would turn the key on with the line open fuel was pushing out but it just wasnt pushing hard enough to run the fuel.so my pump is just going bad...you could hear nd see it working but not enough to push the fuel. THANK YOU 4 YA'LLS HELP!!!!!!!!!Tongue
