read through the car won't start link, no help there. when i turn the ignition the starter starts turning but the engine won't start. just replaced the battery and had the alternator checked and confirmed good. if i can get the car to start it's good for the rest of the day but getting that first startup is a real pain and hit or miss at best. blisteringly cold here, plugs are dry, battery connectors are tight and clean, antifreeze is full, could use an oilchange but not that far past and the fluid level is good, just dark. any recommendations?

It could be the starter itself, if you can hear a winding sound from the starter, the drive may not be engaging all the way, this means new drive. Either way it needs to go to a mechanic, unless you can get it off, and have a look at the drive teeth. If worn, needs to be replaced.

Try turning the key on and off a few times. Leave it in the "on" position for a few seconds each time. If it startss quickly, the fuel pump is bleeding off during the time it is not running. There is a check valve in the pump that keeps fuel in the lines and charged under a little pressure so it starts quickly. Sounds like your pump is starting to lose the check valve. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
