96 Chevy 1500, 5.7ltr. So far have replaced distributor cap, spark plugs, wires, O2 sensors before the cat, and rotor. Runs fine until it warms up then ruff idle, heavy fuel smell and check engine starts to blink. Also has heavy oil coating on all plugs on one side of engine.

If one side of the engine has black plugs, you probably have a fuel pressure regulator leaking underneath the upper intake manifold or an injector related leak. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thank you, that's kind of what I was narrowing it down too also. Is there a way to check the fuel pressure regulator and/or injectors to see if it's that with out having to replace them and finding out that's not the problem? Being parts are expensive I don't want to put a lot of money into replacing parts that don't need it.

You can kind of get an idea by opening the throttle and having someone cycle the key on and off. If you can smell raw gas in there, something is leaking. You could also remove the throttle body. Then with an inspection mirror and flash light, you may be able to see it leaking while someone primes the pump by cycling the key. Sure way is to remove the upper intake. Then plug the fuel pipes back on and pressurize the system. You'll definitely see what is leaking then. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
