Dodge

165,000 miles
Intrepid keeps overheating, aquired car from a friend and they said they replaced the water pump. Thermostat seems to be working, Fans kick on when temp guage is up 3/4, took thermostat out and it still got hot and boiled out. No appearant leaks and no coolant in oil. Please help! noticed crankshaft pully has a bit of a wobble to it. and belts are in poor condition. Any suggestions welcome Please!

At this point, the previous overheating could have resulted in a blown head gasket. There are pressure tests and chemical tests that can be performed to test for this. The easiest way is using an exhaust analyzer.

If you can confirm that there is no head gasket leakage, then your probably looking at a bad radiator.

PS, put that thermostat back in. You don't want to run without one.

Thank you very much for your input. I just wnted to let you know that I reverse flushed the radiator and bled the air out of the cooling system and that seemed to have solved the overheating problem.

That may be temporary. The flushing moves things around a little but it usually comes back later. If it was just an air problem, then you'll probably be OK.
