I have a 1996 Silverado with the 305 engine in it, either has a blown head gasket or the intake manifold gasket is bad I don't know which . I put a garden hose in the radiator in the water was running out the oil pan plug I wanted to know if a 1999 350 vortec engin would go in without any modification like are all the plugins the same? Thanks

Definitely not. It's an entirely different operating system and fuel supply system. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

AGREE with HT - much much easier to recondition the engine than swap -- AND I will add sometimes emission laws get in the way.

thank you so much for the information, ok could you tell me what year 350 engine I could use in my 96 Silverado? I really hate to put this 305 back into it, I mean like if I had an older or newer 350 couldnt I just put the throttle body on to that? Thanks.

No, same problem. Your operating system is programmed to operate a 5.0, not a 5.7. I'll also remind you again that Federal law prohibits doing that. The only thing you can put back in there is another compatible 5.0.
