96 Olds Ciera 6 cyl. 140,00 mi. for a while now, my car will give out at random times. while im on the highway, sitting in a drive thru, or just going thru town. if my foot is on the gas i will just feel it give out. the car will not accelerate. the oil/engine lights come on. i lose power steering. however the car doesnt shut off until I shut it off. then after i wait a few seconds, and start it up again, it goes. ive had it looked at a couple times. they put in a new cam censor, and insulated some wires by the alternator that were leaking, but its still happening..more and more often too. not more than once a day. please help!! i love my car but this seems unfixable! thanks. -Haley

I had a GM product in the mid 80's and it did similar things. That one wound up being the ECM (computer) that was the problem. Does the speedometer drop to "0" when this happens? Not saying that is your problem, but if there is nothing else to check------ Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Haley; I'm assuming that you are losing the power steering and having the oil lamp illuminated due to low engine rpm. Probably isn't this simple, but have you checked the fuel filter? Also, have them check fuel pressure and volume. Camshaft sensors will rarely cause a 'drivablility' problem that you'll notice. Crankshaft sensors will, but generally will cause the engine to die when they take a dump. Just a thought. Loren SW Washington
