97 S10 Blazer V6 Sign In

Engine wont get over 130 degrees. Replaced therm. & temp sensor. What could cause an engine to not heat up??

Well it may sound silly but where are you located such as your state or country also the outside temperature?

Also how long do you leave the car running before you test the temp?

Just give us some more details to help us trouble shoot your problem.

This should be an easy one!

I'm thinking one of two things are happening here....

1. Gauge is wrong

2. T-Stat is bad or bent with installation problem.

If you get hot air to the touch with request for full heat it should be almost too hot to hold your hand in the ducts. 130F air doesn't feel that hot.

T-Stat can be checked easily. With a cold engine, start it up and open hood and feel upper radiator hose away from moving parts please! It should stay fully cold for several minutes - then gradually warm up as the T-stat opens. If you feel it warm up real soon the T-Stat is the problem. There are bad ones even new or slipped out of position when it was replaced which defeats its purpose. If you suspect the T-Stat just put another new one in as they don't cost that much. If bad and not bent the store should replace it N/C. Check a new one in a pan of water on a stove with a thermometer and watch it open at about the degrees it is set for which is usually about 195F.

Note: any time you have drained coolant - check, check, check the coolant level after it has cycled from hot to cold a few times and it helps to purge air pockets out by driving the veh around the block or some safe place doing turns , starts and stops to get those bubble back to the top of the radiator - then fill it and recovery tank,
