98 mustang 3.8 noise

98 mustang 3.8 noise Sign In

98 Mustang, 3.8L, 5 spd, 110k

Engine makes a hipitched intermittent squeal from the front of the engine. It makes same sound with belt removed. Have replaced everything. Good oil pressure, uses a chain for driving camshafts. Checked pvc system.

Hmmm? A squeel?? Try a fresh oil change - perhaps something funky with the oil in there now??

Check the following picture. There is a cam positioning sensor that will make the noise. Also the syncronizer below the sensor will squeak.
