Hello I'm working on my 98 3.0 ranger with a idle issue when driving or shifting the engine will hold the rpm's or even rise when shifting or holding in the clutch (IE: shifting at 3000), Its a 5 spd. and Im sure its not the flywheel dragging or anything like that.The rpm's will slowly drop to around 1200 and when i come to complete stop thay drop to about 1000. I have no codes and have replaced the TPS, IAC and cleaned the MAF. if i unplug the IAC and drive it dont do it.... (but idle is very low as the IAC cant open) sems like the computer or somthing is telling the IAC to hold the rpm's for some reason. any ideas ?? Thanx George

It's very possible you have a PCM problem going on, especially if you've disconnected the IAC and the problem goes away. You would have to look at a data stream to see how the PCM is trying to control the IAC or scope the ground side & check the duty cycle...... One thing that did come to mind, I believe yours is too new but I do remember something about some AM IACs that were built "backwards". What it was, was they looked exactly like the OE ones but when you installed it, if done correctly it would look "backwards" when done. If you installed it by comparing it to the old one it would be wrong. Some even came with a harness extension so the connecter would reach the IAC..... Needless to say, it was a bad idea and created problems..... You could try flipping yours around to see if it makes any difference......

Ty for the advice, I'm with ya on the pcm looks like its time to bring it in to the pro's. I think i have to go turn the IAC around if the wires will reach just for the hell of it. LOL
