1999 Chevy cavalier 2.2l 208,000 miles My girlfriends cavalier has been rough to start for a couple weeks, but I haven't had time to adress the issue. She drove to work yesterday an it ran fine. When she clocked out 8 hours later it would not start. It turns over but will not start up. I tried spraying carbeurater cleaner in the intake and it wouldnt try to fire. The plugs and wires were new 10,000 miles ago. The starter was new 500 miles ago, flywheel looks good. Today I changed the fuel filter, and cam sensor, still nothing... The two separate coils on the engine look new. I did notice that the theft light stayed on during the untire process of trying to start it. It stays lit solid, rather than flashing though. I unhooked the battery for 30 minutes. It will not fire up, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!

Theft light shouldn't be on while your cranking the engine. You might have a pass lock issue. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Just about any auto parts store will pull them for free. You just have to be able to get it there. If not, I've seen very basic scanner for about $50. Some parts stores have a tool loaner program where you just put down a deposit on the tool and it's returned to you when you return the tool. I'm not sure if the have scanners that they loan out though. If not, I bet you could find a parts store who would let you borrow it if you left your license and you had it back in an hour.

Ok so we got some snow and I was on plow duty for 27 hours. While I was gone my father came over and replaced fuel regulator, test pressure, double checked all that I did, and...... Nothin! I researched the passlock deal and tries a couple of the timed ignition cycles after fully charging the battery. Nothin. The dealer says its not common with cavaliers but with what I gathered online it is. They want 50 to look at it, it will be 200 for new sensor ( if needed ) 100+ for labor, and 75 to tow it there, plus they wont get to it untill monday or tuesday! That's a lot of money to put in a 800 dollar car with over 200k miles! Anybody have any insight???
