2005 Chevy Venture LS 145K miles I'm having a slight overheating issue with my minivan. As long as I am driving, the engine stays within the normal temperature range. If I sit idle, the temp gauge creeps up. The fan is running and I placed my hand on the radiator, it's quite cool top to bottom. I have not noticed any leaks, and the coolant level in the reservoir is appropriate. It seems at first glance that the engine is not hot, but the temp gauge tells me differently. Any thoughts?

Will the fan eventually shut off if the A/C is not turned on? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The needle slowly and steadily approaches the red zone. I don't want it to overheat, so I shut it off before it gets too hot. I haven't let it run to see just how high it will go.

Run it at idle until it either hits the red zone or the fans shut off and tell me which one it was.

Cold air blowing out of the cooling fans isn't a good thing with the gauge creeping up to H. Did you remove the radiator cap and check the level in the radiator itself. You might want to have the system pressure checked when the engine is cold to be sure you have no leaks. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
