Coolant Leak 01 Subaru Legacy Sign In

My 2001 Subaru Legacy, with 122,000 miles, has had a slow coolant leak for a while. But over the past week it has gotten increasing worse. I looked under the hood today and found the spot where it is leaking from. I took pictures and was curious if anyone can tell me what the area is? I am going to take it to a mechanic but would like some sort of idea of what is going on. It also started smelling of burnt maple syrup the past week as well.

That's not coolant. That's grease being slung out from a spinning C/V joint with a leaking boot.

Sorry I guess my pictures aren't really clear. The liquid that was leaking from the area was green so I assumed that it was coolant. And the fluid that was on the ground was coolant. Does coolant travel anywhere near that area?

That is the transmission area. There is no coolant in the immediate area so it has to be running down from something above. You need to pressure test the coolant system and follow the leak to it's source.
