Crank Sensor Sign In

Can you please tell me where the exact location of the Crank Sensor is on a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix? We need to replace it, but we are having trouble locating it.Please contact me A.S.A.P.Thanks Alot CassieTongue

I think it's in the back of the engine and hard to see or get at. Post back what engine you have as I think you had a choice of a couple on that car, T

Ok i got it its a 3.1liter & a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix!!!Smile

It should be lower engine, passenger side. It has a 2 wire connector on it. The sensor has a black plug angled at 90* and has a metal hold down with a single bolt going thru it. When you go to take the sensor out, first soak it with penetrating oil and twist it as you pull. It has an o-ring around it and they sometimes can be a bear to remove. Make sure the o-ring is on the new sensor before you install it or you will have a good size oil leak.

You couldn’t be more right about these little guys being a bear; one engine they’ll pop out as if they were only install yesterday; ten minutes and you’re done. Then the next one will be in there as if it was welded. The worse one I’ve ever had to do; I ended up removing the oil pan and driving the sensor out from the inside. Removing an oil pan on this vehicle with this engine is anything but a ten-minute job; flat rate pays better then four hours for an experienced technician.
The plastic 90-degree portion of the sensor that Steve is talking about becomes so brittle that no matter how gentle you are; it’ll break off flush with the engine block. Then you’re into attempting to install a sheet metal screw into the center of the sensor, in the hope of having something to grab onto. I’ve had people tell me that they have tried drilling the center of the sensor using a flexible drill extension without success. You can actually get up there with the extension but the magnet that is imbedded in the sensor is so hard that the drill bit won’t cut into it.
OH the things that should be easy that turn into a nightmare; no wonder my hair is thinning and turned so gray. LOL
