I have a 2009 Nissan Infiniti G37. The car went into limp mode. I took it to a local repair shop. They charge $130 for a diagnostic fee. They called me back and said spark plugs need changing and a fuel induction cleaning needs to be done. Total cost = $930 (including the diagnostic fee). Does this sound ok in your opinion? I know there are overhead and labor costs. Is this fair or does it seem a little excessive? Thanks for any and all input.

First off the only limp mode this engine has is for the electronic throttle failure.

That estimate sounds like a total rip off. Replacing the spark plugs is 1.8 hr The plugs are expensive at about $20 each.

Plugs $120
Labor $ 180 @ $100hr labor rate
The fuel injector cleaning is just profitable maintenance for the shop.

Diagnostic fees are usually waived if work is performed.

None of this relates to whatever you are calling "limp mode".

What were the actual code numbers stored?
What is the mileage on the car?

! Agree just labor costs higher where I am. For ~ an hour's of time to check it out, leave you with a printout of diagnosis with costs at that shop it's still way out of range!

Hate to bash shops it's costly to be able to a thing + the place, tools 'amortized' doing work but that's nuts.

Get another quote, some free if you do the work @ that shop for an estimate.
Some may add a charge for shop supplies and hazmat disposal still should say so up front,

Tom
