I have a 97 Chevy S-10 with a 4.3 litre V6. Lately I have been hearing a knocking sound (more like a loud ticking sound) once it warms up a bit. It still runs great and the sound is not always present. I was told by one mechanic that the engine needed to be replaced but I have since noticed that the reservoir for the radiator contains almost pure oil. Is that an indication of a bad engine or something else. Any way to better diagnose the problem before I invest in a used engine.

Is it brown engine oil or red transmission fluid? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
