1993 Buick Skylark 3.3 V6 approx 166,000. Engine idles rough and bogs down with acceleration, will die when cold. Check engine light on (code 43). Check'd plugs, wires, cleaned throttle body, new fuel filter, check'd fuel injectors(all clicking), vac lines, even swaped out ecm with known working one. Code 43 indicates knock sensor. Would this cause these symptoms? Chilton not real helpful with this problem. I cannot even locate the knock sensor in this car. One source says near throttle, another, simply says "under the hood on passenger side. Where is this thing? Trying to help my sis with this, needs it to get to work and can't afford to spend much.

No, that code does not automatically mean knock sensor. It's an EST (electronic spark timing) code. The components in that circuit are the knock sensor, the Ignition Control Module, the ECM and all related wiring and the problem can be in any of those. The knock sensor is in the side of the block on the back side of the motor. It's round with one wire and threads into the block ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

heintz; Look at the scanner to see what temperature the PCM is seeing when cold. Is it accurate? The knock sensor won't come into play until the engine is at operating temp, anyway. If the knock sensor picks up an engine noise from whatever, the PCM will retard the timing making it sluggish and trash the fuel economy. Loren SW Washington

Do not have scanner. Did check with paper clip. Code 43 only one showing. Replaced ECM with known working one and no change. What would be next simplest, easiest, cheapest check? PCM is in the ECM right. Engine idles ok so no cylinder miss. Could this be a short in system? Money is tight so any advice appreciated.
