Exhaust valve Sign In

1999 Honda cr-v 2.0. Miss at idle. Cyl #1 misfire Strong spark all 4. Compression #4 180 #3 190 #2 190 #1 60 Added oil to cyl #1, recheck comp. No change. Vacuum good, no bouncing needle. Before I condemn the exhaust valve, just thought I'd get some input. Any thoughts? How bad are these to tear down?

Anyone mess with the timing belt recently. It could have a bent valve. Doing a leakdown test would be the next step.

Try a cylinder leak down test on that cylinder. That will tell you which valve is leaking. Haven't had one of those apart yet, so your the guinea pig...lol

? The cylinder @ 60 PSI. Perhaps just get that to TDC and blow air in plug hole. Bet you hear it come out exhaust pipe vs another,

Hissing at tailpipe. Not going any further on this for the time being. If I end up tearing into it, I'll let you know. Doesnt look too bad to tear down. Shining light down into cylinder shows top of piston looks nasty. 190k miles, not worth doing unless going to do a major overhaul, IMO. Doesnt look like timing cover has been off recently. Should have done leakdown before posting, was just in a hurry and brain fart I guess. Dont get to break out that tool too often.
