Hi all, i have an 1800cc ford galaxy but it is very sluggish in 1st gear and when going up a steep slope say from a car park or through country lanes whilst recently in Devon I have to really rev it to get any power, then we get a smell coming through from the engine that smells like cabbages. Any ideas? Could it be the clutch or the fuel injection?

A. Remove cabbage from engine compartment. Just kidding What model year? Get the codes read for info. May be exhaust restriction or lots of things possible, - T

Yes - mostly US regulars here but lots of things are similar. Lack of power and odor (whatever or however described) suggests maybe the odor of burning brake or clutch material or maybe again the converter is restricted or burning so hot you can smell it as well. Assorted fluids do have distinct odors most of the time. Check fluid levels and test for excessive back pressure from exhaust usually the converter but find out why as well as it really isn't normal - something is causing that if so, T PS: My family history is from Europe but that was probably 350 years ago!
