Gas Mileage - Engine Rebuild Sign In

I just had my 1.5L in my Toyota Paseo rebuilt. Prior to the rebuild and big reason for keeping it, I got around 38 - 41 MPG. I'm currently getting about 19 - 20 MPG. Any ideas on what could cause this? I understand it will need to be broken in however should the mpg be this bad? Engine was completely rebuilt, i.e., pistons, rings, crank, valve job, etc. Thanks.

Remachined parts especially cylinders do have a break-in period. Used to suggest 500 miles or so and we used to use a break-in oil to dump at the 500 mile area and then it should behave as you would expect.

If that was your first MPG check I'd forgive it and bring it up with rebuilder if it continues too long,
