HELP! 2005 Tahoe will not start Sign In

Hi, we have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe Z71,
5.3L V8,
about 100k
it has not be driven in 3 days, the last time it was driven it ran fine, said low oil, I went to leave in it this morning, an it cranks but will not start up. The speedometer has been acting funny (showing you are going like 70mph when not moving) I don't know if that even has anything to do with this or not. I thought maybe it was low on gas so I put gas in, no change, oil was low so I put oil in, no change, no dem lights, just will not start up. Can someone please help with this?

First thing you need to do is figure out what is missing before we can help you..

Need to figure out what is missing Spark, Fuel or compression.

easiest thing to check is spark. Take a spark plug out hook it to the spark plug wire and ground the plug to metal and see if you can see if the spark jumps across the plug. Easy way to ground the plug is take spare pieces of wire rap it around the threads of the plug and on the negative terminal on the battery.. get someone to crank the engine and look for spark make sure not to touch the plug while cranking may give you a jolt.

Not a sparking problem, this happened basically overnight, no acting funny, no warning, no check engine light, I have a feeling its something simple, but what is the next thing I need to do?

well 1 you don't know if it's spark problem or not, because you didn't check..

like I said engine needs 3 things to run spark, fuel and compression..

if you don't want to check for spark spray a little break clean or throttle body cleaner into the intake have friend crank it see if it fires.

Did check just as you posted, hence the reason I posted back and said it is not a sparing problem, so what is the next step? I do know how to follow directions. I may be a woman, but I am not stupid, so please do not talk to me like I am.

did it fire when you sprayed the break clean in the thorottle body if so.. give the tank a few taps with a mallet while somone cranks it to see if it starts.

Re: HELP! 2005 Tahoe will not start Sign In

hERES A QUICK TIP. if someones there with you have them crank the engine while you lay on your side by the fuel tank and with either your hand or a rubber mallet pound on the bottom of the gas tank while the engine is cranking..most likely the fuel pump is hung up and needs to be shaken a bit..a very common problem with GM products early sign of needing a new fuel pump assy.in the tank.If its quiet enough you can usually hear the pump run for 3 seconds when turning on the key without cranking it.If you can hear it run then check for spark.likely if the pumps running it will be a crank pos.sensor PS the wacky speedo has no bearing on it that is another common GM truck problem that will need a new instrument cluster, usually less than $400.00
