HELP - Heavy Smoking when starting up Sign In

I have a 1997 citreon Berlingo diesel van which is smoking really heavily, plumes of it, when I start from cold. It only lasts for a couple of minutes then it settles down to normal.

I should say that a few months ago I over filled it with engine oil. The result of that was that after I had filled it up and had been driving for about 5 to 10 minutes it was smoking like crazy from the exhaust before it started revving like mad and finally conked out. I had a guy clear it all out and it seemed to go back to normal but as I said when I start from cold it smokes very heavilly for a couple fo minutes whilst driving then settles down.

Someone did say to me that it might be the rings have gone and another has said there is still oil being burned off. The other thing is when I turn on the heater smoke comes out the vents and fills the cab.

The engine runs as normal after a couple of minutes and there has been no loss of power.

Any ideas anyone??

When you overfilled the oil theres a chance the valve seals were damaged not to say it coudn't affect the rings, but the crankcase pressure might have rupture them, cold start smokes then stops, oil leaking past valve seals when car is off, when car started oil is burned off. Not sure but sound like the smoke is being pulled in from the outside, Is it smoking under the hood?
