Car-- 1994 Plymouth Acclaim, 4 cyl 2.5L around 94,000 miles Ok so I just changed my car's engine oil & filter started it up & it built up pressure fine. I drove it about a mile and when i put it in park it I noticed the engine was idleing really really high. I checked oil level & it's fine. I've put the car in different gears and the idle remains high, when I put it in drive and held the brakes on it tried to gun foward. How can i fix this? Thanks.

I don't think the oil has anything to do with the high idle, check and see if the throttle linkage is ok.

Also check for vacuum leaks. if this is a throttle body injection system, vacuum leaks will cause a high idle. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

the throttle cables are fine there not stuck. Vacuum hoses all appear to be normal It now only happens when the transmission is in Park or Neutural when its in drive or reverse its normal now. I told a friend about this and he asked how dirty was the old oil and i said it was bad it's been a while since i changed it and then he told me that if the oil was really dirty and I added new oil the engine is idling high because its getting more compression (he went into details but i don't remember it, he actually is a mechanic) He told me just to drive it and the computer will re-configure it or something like that. I will not have a chance to do that tonight but i guess i'll try it tommorow, unless anybody disagrees?

Yeap that did it. Took it for a good drive and within about 5 minutes it was going normal again.
