Truck ran fine when first purchased a month ago, just recently the idle has gone a bit haywire when cold. Starts idle at 2000rpm when cold then when starts to warm it bounces from 1500 to 2000 for a bit then to 1000 to 1500 and so on for about 20 min or so. But when engine is warm it stays right at the 750rom idle speed. When it is surging it sounds as if a hissing sound like a gasp of sort is happening. I havent found any vac leaks and tried a diagnostic computer but had no luck, the engine light flashed as if nothing is wrong. Any suggestions??

What is the fuel pressure when this is happening? What is the current tune-up status? Since you just got it would be a good idea to pull some plugs and look inside the cap. At least you found a simple truck to work on.

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.
