Idle goes up and down. Sign In

Well, I got a problem with a:

2005 Nissan Altima 2.5L SFI DOHC 4cyl.

My friends daughter brings her car to me and says:
"it keeps speeding up and slowing down".

It does. The idle in this car fluctuates about once every two seconds, it sounds like the idle is going from low to high.

I'm not sure what controls the idle on these Nissans, anyone know where to set the idle.

Get codes and post #s. Then just clean and inspect all intake and throttle body. Idle is controlled by computer based on info including air flow going in and would struggle to maintain a steady idle,

Before you do anything, make sure the coolant level is totally full.

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

Does that mean it's all fixed now? Hope so,

Sorry, it means that I got what you were saying.

I won't see the car, maybe, until Sunday.
