Inlet and Exhaust Valve Mechanism Sign In

Hi,

In a four-stroke engine, do the inlet and exhaust valves open and close mechanically or electronically (as in, is there some computer software electronically controlling the valves)? I am learning about how engines work and was a little confused about the valves.

Thanks!

That is a good question. Most engines you'll see will use a mechanical way of opening the valves. "Google" valve train and there is lots of information on that. On some experimental engines electrical solenoid operated valves and pneumatic valves are used.
