I've replaced the head gaskets on my 3.1 GM with the help of a "complete" gasket pack I purchased. However, while it seems to have every other gasket (and some I don't remember taking off!) it does not seem to have anything to sit on the S-bend at either end of the lifter valley, between the lower intake manifold and the block. I definitely scraped something off of there, but have nothing to replace it with. Is this a time for some simple RTV sealer, or do I actually need a seal or gasket here? I can find nothing at Autozone or Advance that seems to fit the bill, and the manual I'm working from just says to replace the seals and install the manifold. Thanks for any help

Yes, black RTV is what's used. Make sure it's at least 1/8" thick. Most sets give you a small tube. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
