I scrapped for an hour with a razor blade. Does it look clean enough? If not, what should I use? Also, what should I use as a straight edge to make sure the block is not warped?

Hard to judge from the pictures, but it appears to be clean enough. Using a razor blade was a good idea. Scotch brite discs or wire brushes are a no no. You'll never get the shadow of the gasket out unless you deck the block. You'll need a straight edge to check for warping. It is an actual tool.
