Loosing engine power
98 chrysler sebring 2.5 - Awhile ago I done a post about hitting a water hole w/ my car, well got past that dilemma..Now for the past couple of days I've had issues w/ the car having little power from a dead stop, once in shifted in drive it was ok..but I also have been leaking oil somewhere, (seeing more spots on the ground under the car)..The exhaust does sound louder over the past couple of weeks...I went to take my kids to school and it was really loosing power, it has a strong hesitant into shifting, also smell something hot as well...I will list some of the issues.. Exhaust louder weakening of power from motor(on take off) leaking more oil smoke coming from motor (looks like lower engine) When driving before the car would shift into 2nd and drive the rpm would read higher(almost 5) Tranny fluid level and looks good... Could the catalytic converter cause this issue or oil pump?

In addition, just went out to chk a couple of things...there is a leak(quite a leak) to the front part of the motor(small puddle on garage floor)...It fires right up and sounds fine, just once in gear it bogs down and has very little power...

You have large puddles and smoke, yet your fluid levels are good? You need to go check the levels again and find out where that came from. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I was just doing some online research and I read something that came close to my description of problem.."oil pressure sending unit"....I have always had problems since I've owned the car (2yrs) with the oil light coming off and on, was told that oil pump was fine and nothing to worry about...But, now I am reading that if that is going out that it will leak oil from it and cause the bogged out power from the car on a dead stop and long hesitents to shifting...Now could that be a possibility? I can not get it into a garage at this time, so I'm hoping I can narrow some things down and have my nephew help fix the problem or at least take a look at it. After hitting the large water hole over a month ago, I feel that it may have caused some further issues w/ this car...

Don't ask what it can be until you can tell us what fluid you are losing.

There are tons of things that can leak oil in that area. You need to clean off all of the old thoroughly and then run the engine to see where it is originating from.
