MAF Sensor Probems

Year of vehicle - 1998 Make of vehicle - Isuzu Model of vehicle - Rodeo Engine size - 3.2L V6 Mileage/Kilometers - 162k I am having issues with my SUV's Mass Airflow Sensor. The "Check Engine Light" has been on for some time now. Additionally, I find that it idles low and is lurchy when I take my foot off the accelerator--indicating to me that the engine is running too rich. I brought it in for a diagnosis, and I was told it was a problem with the MAF Sensor. I first tried cleaning it using some MAF Sensor Cleaner; no good. The Check Engine light and the symptoms persisted. So I completely replaced the MAF Sensor (and the air filter for good measure) with no avail. I refunded the part because it was potentially damaged; the new part still doesn't work. Additionally, I've very closely examined the rubber coupler between the MAF Sensor and the air filter box to see if there is any leakage; there is not. As far as I can tell, the whole air intake system on my car is in fine shape. I hate to think it's the dreaded "e-word," (electrical) but I'm starting to think this is a problem with my car's computer reading the MAF Sensor wrongly. What can I do?

It would be a good idea to have the vehicle hooked up to a good scanner so you can see what the PCM is reading from the MAF sensor (if anything at all). Could be as simple a broken wire or a bad connector. Don't keep throwing parts at it though, you won't get any where doing that. -------------------------------------------------------- Your only as good as your tools!

I did a google search on your yr/make/model . There are a lot of complaints similar to yours that are being solved with replacment of intake gasket. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

I agree with re-tired. If everything electrical checks out, I would be looking into the intake gasket. Do you plan on doing this your self or letting someone else do it? And can you post the code number that you got when it was scanned? -------------------------------------------------------- Your only as good as your tools!
