Quote ">>1980 Mercedes don't recall the model number off had but can get and post if necessary<<" Why post a question if you don't know what this is? I wont have a clue on these cars but you need to know and post what it is and if a Euro or American spec vehicle (some folks imported these themselves as I recall) also or don't think anyone can help much, T

I just recall several cars this old and older met enough US standards to come in new but may not have had identical engines but basically the same general stuff. It was such a price advantage back when you could go on a vacation on pricey cars, have it shipped and got a free vacation out of it. Silly things like did it have bumpers then rated for no damage for slow bumps or different colored rear turn signals or metric speedo/odometers. Some countries require different things and some had smaller or larger engines then were profitable to market here. It should still have the basic stuff unlike some real cheapo cars you couldn't bring to the US until they were 25 model years old. Not certain but I think diesels were then exempt from emission requirements for US. You have it running so you can still if good at diesels go by the basics. I only reluctantly worked on these as parts were difficult and nasty expensive + many were dealer only which was a pain for me so just did some silly work on them. I'm not the right tech for diesels as great as the tech program I went thru it was just basically discussed and not very comprehensive. It's over-fueling if you see smoke/black out tailpipe so see if you can peg that to one or more cylinders with perhaps low compression which I know they must have high compression to fire, T

This thread has been dead for a month and a half. Please stick to more recent posts. I'm sure she's figured this out by now. If not, she can PM me and I'll send her some ideas.
