NEW INTAKE MANIFOLD NOW RUNNING LIKE CRAP Sign In

I recently replaced the intake manifold on my 2001 Mustang GT – 4.6. The car was running fine; however, the plastic fitting were the heater hose connects to broke off. The new plastic manifold had an integrated gasket. I cleaned the mounting surface really well and following the directions for bolting it on (18 foot pounds in the proper sequence). I put the rest of the car together and fired it up. The problem is the car is running like crap – real rough like its running on 7 cylinders. Further, it’s making a loud clacking noise – like real loud valve tapping. I looked and I not missing any tools. All the vacuum lines have homes and the fuel injections are all firing. Anyone have any ideas?

"LOAD CLACKING NOISE"
Arggh! Is there any chance something fell into heads while head intakes were exposed? I'd get one of those scopes so that can look thru a spark plug hole to see before this is "game over" -- hope not!

I agree with Tom. Sounds like you have something down in there. Even a piece of old gasket material can cause you this kind of trouble.
