Was driving my car on free way. Noticed it would not go over 55 miles per hour. then heard a strange grinding. Then when I reached the tolls the car died. When I restarted it I had to press the gas pedal to the floor to get the car to drive 5 miles per hour. The car starts everytime. It doesn't idle like it used to; instead it chugs very slowly and shakes the motor. It is also very loud now. Please help I need to fix it myself and don't know what's wrong with it.

First thing i would do is check all fluids . oil ,water , and transmission fluid . and make sure belts(s) are in place . we need yr make model to give any more info .
