Good day everyone. I have a 1999 Nissan Altima 4 cyl (not sure of the engine size. The transmission went out last Friday. Had a mechanic look at it and he says it is WAY out of his league (he mostly works on American cars). Anyway, he suggested either a replacement transmission or buy a used Nissan and put our good engine in it. The question is what year Nissan Altimas will be compatible to the engine of a 1999? I looked at ALOT of sites to find a compatible transmission with little to no luck. I observed that transmissions were listed " Nissan Altima 94, 95, 96, 97, 98 & 99 (including 99 Altima)" which seemed kind of odd. I was talking to a guy earlier at a salvage shop and he said the engine would probably only fit a '98 or another '99. I want to verify this info. If this was an american made car I friends with books that have all the compatibility details but alas it is not. Can anyone help me?

Did you try your local salvage yard for a used transmission?

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Yes, we have contacted all of the local salvage yards looking for a tranny. One of them was part of a parts lookup system and they found one... in Texas.
