Nissan fuel pump problems Sign In

Hi, my dad has a 1995 Nissan SE extended cab pickup. Not sure the engine size but it's got a little over 100,000 mi. He's having trouble getting fuel to the engine. Not sure if it's fuel pump problems or electrical. Is there a simple way to narrow it down? Thanks for any advice....Pete

The best way to avoid a misdiagnosis would be to hook up a fuel pressure gauge and take a reading. You should have around 35lbs psi.

Re: Nissan fuel pump problems Sign In

Hey guys! Thanks for the help but still having problems. Not knowing if it was a faulty fuel pump my dad went ahead and bought one . We dropped the fuel tank and installed as was the old one. We're still not getting gas to the engine from the fuel feed line. If this helps any...We did rig up a garden sprayer and pressured it up and and tied it into the fuel inlet (omitting the fuel filter) and the engine did run. I did check the electrical connection that's plugged into the top of the fuel tank and we got juice(after the engine was started) to the new fuel pump. Any ideas???...Thanks again....PeteUnsure

Re: Nissan fuel pump problems Sign In

What about the fuel pressure regulator?
Or the fuel filter even?
Maybe a clogged fuel line?

Stop throwing parts at is and use a fuel pressure gauge as you were instructed in the beginning.

Re: Nissan fuel pump problems Sign In

No problem.
Like hammer-time said, do a fuel pressure test on it first.
Then figure out why it's not getting enough pressure if it isn't.

Re: Nissan fuel pump problems Sign In

You can't know if you even have a pressure problem if you don't read the pressure. Then you can know exactly how the fuel pump is acting.

Re: Nissan fuel pump problems Sign In

Rite, but other things can mess up fuel pressure then just the fuel pump correct?
Anything that's blocking flow of the fuel is a problem.

Re: Nissan fuel pump problems Sign In

Again......... you don't know if you even have a fuel pressure problem. Identify what the problem is before you try to fix it.

Re: Nissan fuel pump problems Sign In

I dropped the tank and pulled the full pump assembly out again..Took the small "damper" off and blew thru it with an air hose. I didn't notice anything that came out.. But after hooking it back up, it still wouldn't start... This morning I went to the shop and tried cranking it...Guess what!?...It ran!!!...Don't know how long but for now it's running...PeteSmile

Still waiting for a fuel pressure reading during the failure.

Hammer time is a real smart guy, He knows what he's talking about.
So do the fuel pressure test already man..
You can rent the tester if you don't have one.
