Oil Light Flickers Sign In

2004 Chrysler Sebring Touring 2.7 L with 65,000 miles.

After driving for 30 minutes and I come to a stop, the oil light will flicker if the RRMs are less than 600. If I put the car into neutral and RPMs go above 600 the light will stay off. Any suggestions would be appreicated.

thanks
TJ

Re: Oil Light Flickers Sign In

The first place I would start diagnosing this, would be to make sure that the proper viscosity of oil is being used and that the oil was not contaminated for whatever reason.
Which would mean having the oil changed; at the same time, have the technician perform an oil pressure test on the engine. This will tell you whether the light issue is a mechanical (engine) or an electrical one. Mechanical could be anything from a failing oil pump, oil pressure relief valve or just what a lot of people have found. The 2.7Lt engine has a very short life span; due to poor lubrication design faults. Electrically this problem could be something as simple, as a faulty oil pressure sending unit (sensor)? It might be failing electrically; not sending the proper data to the instrument cluster? Regardless of why the light is coming on, get it checked and find out who’s doing what to who. If this actually is low oil pressure; you may be doing more and more damage to the engine by driving it $$$$
If it’s an electrical issue; due to a (physically) leaky sending unit, it could turn into a mechanical one. Main line oil pressure is sent to the sending unit; if the thing decides to turn from a small leak into a gusher; you won’t know it until its all over. AGAIN $$$$
Hope some of this helped?

Dan.
