I have a 1996 S-10 Chev with a 2.2 5 speed. I have to change the cam sensor and i was hoping to remove it without breaking it but it seems to be stuck in the engine. Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove this sensor without damaging it or the engine. Tried on a removed engine with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Dee

Just thinking here... Maybe give it a shot of some PB Blaster....let it soak for awhile then try to wiggle it out. PB blaster is a much better at penetrating than WD40 Stupid question...I assume you did remove the retaining bolt...I know but I had to ask ...Sorry! See what the others have to say! Hope that helps Jim

Yes, I did remove the retaining bolt. The alloy sleeve of the sensor is seized right into the engine. Every one we've tried to remove has snapped in half. Dee

To add to Jim's anwser....if the cam sensor can be turned in the engine then the o-ring has hardened and you might have to apply the penatrating oil for a couple of days before it can be broke loose.

It's stuck harder than the hinges of H#LL. The plastic piece will wiggle but it won't turn at all.

If you can not get it out withyout breaking, you might be able to use an e-z out to remove the metal portion from the block. Or use a small metal saw blade and cut a slot in it to remove. Hope it will come out for you though. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
