I was quoted $3700 to replace 3. 8liter supercharged engine for my 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix Limited Edition. The used engine has 70k miles ($1800) and the mechanic is charging $1900 to replace all the seals on the engine and install. Does this sound like a fair price? Thank you in advance for your response.

I don't know exactly what he refers to as far as "replacing seals" but the labor definitely sounds high. The book time to replace a long block which includes transfer of all parts is 12.3 hours. At $80 per hour, that's still under $1000 in labor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
