Whenever the weather is 70+ degrees or its ran in the last 2-3 hours, I have to goose the throttle after I turn the ignition of my '04 Grand Prix just to get it to start. If I don't, usually it will just immediately sputter and die. It has done this ever since I got it and I have just dealt with it. This will be the 3rd summer I've owned my car, and I've gotten so used to it, it just doesn't bother me anymore, but its about time I did something. The dealership couldn't figure anything out, and I'm a little confused too, usually its the cold starts that are a bother. The weird thing is, once its started, there's no problem. It runs just fine. The only thing I can figure is maybe the solenoid or a thermostat....I really don't know, I need a second opinion.

I would begin this adventure with scanning the computer; not so much for codes but having a look at sensor data. Having an especially close look at the incoming air temperature (AIT) sensor and the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor; making sure that they were reporting accurate information to the computer. Next thing I would do is to check if there hasn’t been a re-flash (new program) for the PCM (computer) that may address this issue. With a Scanner you can retrieve the calibration code (program code#) that your computer is running on. Then go to this site http://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web Enter the VIN # of your vehicle and it will bring up all of the different flashes that have come out for this vehicle. It will also give you a brief description of why the new program was issued. The fist code listed is the newest program that has come out; see where your code falls in the list. If you see something there that address your problem or possible outers; take the car or if you wish just the computer into any place that has the equipment to re-flash the computer. A couple of notes before you do have a computer re-flashed; one, you can’t pick and choose which program; you get the newest and all previous will follow. The other thing that has happened to me on a couple of occasions; is that a few customers have come back to me; reporting that their fuel mileage went down slightly. Sometimes if the fix that was written in the program, was to add a bit more fuel or change timing; both of which will reduce fuel mileage. Once a new program is installed; you can’t go back to the old one, its there until another new program is written which may not happen. Dan. Canadian "EH"

yea dans pretty on the money, sounds like a sensor issue... the air temp sensore usually located round the MAF possibly. Next thing would to again like dan illistrated would be to check the cars comp to see if there is any codes that you could use to trouble shoot... if its clean the comp may have collected some bad data and if it was me id pull the plug off the battery for a bit to reset it.
