Any ideas why a car (being driven at about 40mph, accelerating to 60)would suddenly make extremely loud revving noises, then continue despite changing the gear and making sure foot is off accelerator etc? It happened this morning - I nearly had a heart attack. It was really loud and I couldn't control anything - just had to put my hazards on and steer it into an industrial park where I could safely switch the ignition off and break!! The car is a Ford KA standard 1.3 - no modifications apart from a shiny exhaust cover) It is a 2002 (well 51) reg and has just been serviced. It passed the MOT earlier this year and has been perfect up until today. It was so noisey that I'm still shaking now. it sounded like the engine was going to blow. No hazard lights came on though. I thought at first it may be due to gear getting stuck (although I've been driving the car since 2003 and never had any difficulties), so tried changing gear, but it responded to the gears to an extent - not fully and the engine continued revving!! Any help would be greatly appreciated - I don't want to pay for unnecessary repairs etc. I was just considering getting a new car, and hoped to sell this one before it threw any problems like this!!

Hi Leehaa, I don't have a clue but will say this IS a GOOD reason to take this car to a shop and get it fixed or diagnosed if you want to do it. Scary as you said is not worth getting hurt, or hurting someone else too. Others may have a different suggestion here but mine is to get this to the right shop ASAP. T

Thank you. I will get it looked at, though I think i've found the problem!! http://www.dervman.com/kahelp.htm It is the bit under: Erratic idle. My colleague said his partner had exactly the same thing and he cleaned this and it was ok again. I also found loads of stuff (which seems a bit more related to my problem) on the Throttle position sensor - apparently there is loads of trouble with this in the KA. It is a known problem, but Ford don't want to admit it!! Cheers, Leah.

It's not just Ford!! Seems like all companies wait till a problem is cheaper to fix than pay out on lawsuits!! T
