Signum engine enigma, please help!!! Sign In

hello all,

these are my car details:

Vauxhall signum
3.0 CDTi v6
auto
2004
98000 miles

first off let me just say this is a wonderful car to drive and its because of this reason that im still trying to get this car fixed a year after it came off the road.

i began to get a starting up problem at first that progressively got worse until one day that just wouldnt start. After calling out the AA, the guy thought it would be a fuel pump problem, there is a rear and front fuel pump on my car, so after spending ages actually getting a mechanic to do the work on my car, we got it done( vauxhall master fit) and the front fuel pump was changed.
When i got the car back we then discovered that after about 30mins of running time the car will just cut out and wont start until not being used for an hour or two.
i called back to vauxhall master fit and they are very reluctant to even touch my car now and the best advice they can give me is to book it into one of their london dealers, who will them start to take the car apart and start changing parts until they come across the right one that fixes my issue, they cant pinpoint the problem because no fault codes show and also because of a discrepamcy in communication between my car and their diagnostics equipment. Vauxhall master fit also want to charge me £105.00 an hour plus vat for thisMad (bearing in mind they have no idea what part needs to changed or how long it will take to do it), as you can guess i am very reluctant to follow this advice.

Any help would be most welcome, or indeed if anyone can point me in the right direction of a man/woman that does would be great.

my location is maidstone kent.

thanks in advance

anth.

First off know that most regulars here are not going to have detailed specifics on this car but no telling who may pop in.

That suggestion to just start tossing stuff until it's fixed is universally ridiculous. NO! You get the diagnostic information and pin it down and yes that can cost more but once is better than just aimless guessing with parts and then if you do that you wonder if a new part is bad - wrong approach.

Two fuel pumps? Not sure why and may by the CDTi mean diesel which could be feeding the stronger one with just one to get it there - can't know.

Any fuel engine is highly dependant on proper fuel delivery and diesels need serious high pressure and some "petrol" ones too.

If this was caught right when not starting and not way too cold I would think a prime of more volatile fuel would at least bring it to attempt to run or better be there with pressure gauges waiting to see if it is out of spec despite new pumps.

So far you plain need to find the right person or shop if for only a diagnosis and fix just what is wrong. Hard to believe it's several things all at once.

Not sure how you grade quality for technical help but try to find the right place with no dumb excuses like "tossing parts" till you hit on the bad one!
