Hi Guys First post on the forum. Not an issue exactly just trying to learn as much as I can. I recently started learning how to do my own maintenance on my 2007 Acura TSX which has 140,500 miles and lives in Ohio. I just replaced the spark plugs which went very smoothy. I have no idea when they were last changed. I'm just curious what guys can tell from looking at my pics - Does it look like these were ready to be replaced? How can you tell? (They looked quite good to me but I replaced them anyway as I already brought the new ones and the car has high mileage) - The middle two which are from the middle two cylinders have a lot more black sludge on them than the others. What causes this? Does it hint at any other problems? - All 4 have brownish grease and the same grease is which is also on the ignition coils. I assume this was put there to stop the coils sticking to the plugs? Should I have re-greased the new ones? - Finally, in general does looking at these tell you anything else about the engine? Thanks for helping out!

Those are platinum plugs and they don't actually show visible wear. They look fairly new to me and are burning very clean. What you are seeing on the middle 2 plugs is on the exterior of the plug and has nothing to do with the way they are burning. What you are seeing is actually oil that leaked onto them from a leaking valve cover gasket. You need to make your pictures smaller before posting because they are too large and making the thread too hard to read. I'm going to delete it shortly if you haven't reduced the size. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
