Starting Problem - '93 Honda Civic DX Sign In

Hey Guys,

My Civic sat in the parking lot for a long weekend and when starting this morning it turned over briefly but then shut off. Subsequent tries resulted in the engine cranking but not turning over. One time there was a loud ringing noise and the flywheel did not seem to engage. This was my first time working on the starting system, so I probably did a few things out of order...

I took the started out and verified the motor and solenoid were both working. After replacing, the pinion engaged, engine turned over, but no firing. I checked out my distributor cap and coil, both appear fine. I don't have a of spare hands right now so I haven't been able to check for a spark while cranking.

I tried getting the ECU code; however, when working on the distributor I took off my ground cable for a period of time which I believe will reset the ECU. I've read that you can crank the ignition for > 10s and the ECU will register a problem (if there is one with the ignition system). Any thoughts?

Also, with all this starting I assume I would have flooded the engine by now, but I haven't smelled any gas. My next step is to make sure my fuel pump runs for 2s when turning the key. Any other advice???

Thanks in advance!
