Ticking only at idle

Hi everyone I have a 2000 buick park avenue that only at idle always has a tick the car has oil in it no leaks at all and has 105,000 miles car runs excellent what can it be? thanks mike

You probably have a weak lifter that doesn't pump up at idle. There are a couple things you can try.
Get a quart of ATF and add it to the engine oil. Run the engine for about 10 minutes and drain the oil and refill with 5W30.
If that doesn't help. you may have to change the lifter.
Now if this noise gets louder when the A/C is turned on, then it could be something entirely different. They have a lot of problems with Harmonic Balancers separating and making a noise like that.

yeah i will try that but yeah only at idle all the time but that wont hurt anything just running transmission fluid in there for 10 mins and then draining the oil?

No, it won't hurt for that little time. If you want to play it safe, just use half a quart and don't work the engine too hard. The detergent in the fluid will get to places regular oil can't.

ok so ill just use a half a quart and just let it idle don't give it gas or anything?

You can bring the RPMs up to get better circulation. Just don't get over aggressive with it.

Don't worry about adjusting them. That's not the issue here. As I said in the first post, you still need to confirm that it is actually a lifter making the noise

ok and if not a lifter what else could it be it does it exactly the same with the ac on
