Trailblazer Startup Engine Noise.. Please help!!!!
|
|
|
I have a Chevy Trailblazer that makes an awful "winding: noise when you start it up. Now it will do this in several occasions.. 1- Startup after engine is cooled down 2- Sometimes during driving I can hear it spin for just a moment 3- If engine is somewhat warm it will only do it for a moment I have checked under the hood and cant see anything that is making the noise... Sounds like it may be coming from under the engine. I have a video link here... Please help me... It wakes my neighbors every morning I go to work http://youtu.be/BxPMBucRbYk

Air injection reaction pump. Sounds a little noisy, but that might be because the sound is echoing off what is around it. The AIR pump blows air into the exhaust system to help light off the catalyst. Your neighbors must think your vacuuming the driveway. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Would it also spin whenever I am driving... if I have the radio off I can hear it spin up sometime. Is it an easy fix? Thank you by the way for answering me.. I wasn't sure this was going to work

It depends if the PCM thinks it should be on or not. It usually comes on when you first start the engine for a several seconds. It may come one while your driving, especially in colder climates. It sounds like yours is operating, but the pump seems kind of noisy. It shouldn't sound like a siren going off, but more like a hoover vacuum cleaner. This could actually be normal. This truck uses a computer controlled electronic fan clutch than can make a lot of noise when at 100%. It can be operated manually with a scan tool to see if that is the noise that you are hearing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Underneath the vehicle on the driver's side frame rail before the transmission cross member the AIR pump lives. You'll be able to tell if that is the problem by listening to it under the vehicle. The pump bearings could be going out and producing that loud whining noise. Moisture in the system can take out the pump bearings. You my friend are a beautiful man!!! That's it, after over a year of living with it. I was able to crawl under the car and stick my head right next to it. I could also "feel" the noise coming out of it. One more question, I could not get a good look at my angle, but is this something I can replace on my own? It looks to only be bolted to the frame...but I could be wrong. I checked online and I found one for $160.79.. looks like they have two types... A straight inlet port & and 90 degree inlet port... I cant tell what one i need.

Shouldn't be too difficult to change out. 3 bolts, couple of plastic pipes, and an electrical connector and you should have it in your hands. Just compare it to the new one and make sure they match. I'd go with an AC Delco Air pump. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Hey I watched your youtube video and that is the exact same issue I am having with my truck(same make and model) I try to explain it to body shops but they dont understand and its too late becasue it has been running too long for them to hear it. Did you end up fixing it yourself and if so how much was the cost and trouble to do it yourself? Also what is the parts entire name so I can use it as a reference when explaining it? Thank you
